Please read my Sales & Advice page for my policy on pianos for sale.

All pianos featured below are the property of private clients and not "stock" pianos. I have no financial interest in these sales except for a small commission (included in the price quoted unless stated) and this page is offered as a service to both existing and new customers wishing to sell pianos. You should find that the prices quoted are significantly cheaper than even the most reasonably-priced independent piano dealer. Unless otherwise stated, all the pianos on this page have been tuned and inspected by myself so I am sure of their integrity.

I try at all times to feature a selection of modern uprights at under £1000. Please note that sensibly priced good modern uprights sell very quickly on this site. If you have a piano of this type that you would like to sell on commission, please contact me.

If you would like more information on any piano please contact me by email or telephone and I will inform the piano's owner of your interest. To present a fairness to both vendor and purchaser, prices of these instruments are where possible a compromise between a dealer's trade offer and his retail price. Many clients may therefore consider offers based on these asking prices.  Remember that private sale pianos are unwarranted and transport is not included in the prices stated. A list of removal specialists can be found on the Links page.

Broadwood Grand, Sheraton-Style cabinet
Full details on request

In totally original unrestored condition. Playable and tuneable but only a full restoration would do justice to this beautiful piano. The cabinet is Satinwood veneered with marquetry banding on all panels; features a fretwork desk; ebonized interior to the fall; gatelegs with stretchers and fretwork candle-boards. Built during Broadwood's finest period of manufacture and to a classic design, the action is a conventional roller type of high quality, so when restored will feel 'modern'. Woodchester Upright. Built October 1996

A little-used Woodchester upright built in the Cotswolds in 1996. Very good condition, with only minor fading to cabinet, and despite it not having been tuned for a while, easily achieved concert pitch with one tuning.  Offered with excellent quality John Austin stool  (shown) in a matching finish. These pianos were the successors to the Bentley range and are popular due to their local origin.

Hohner Upright. Late 1980s.

These were great little pianos from an established West German musical instrument company, M.Hohner, although don't be fooled by the name, these were built by Hellas in Finland to a very high specification for the price. They had three pedals (the middle one for practice) a nicely cast frame using Japanese technology and a Japanese Saito action. They sounded great for a budget piano, and this mahogany one has been tuned regularly by myself for well over a decade. A few years ago it was the subject of a comprehensive overhaul and regulation and is in fine condition. The finish is a very slightly faded vertical grained Sapele Mahogany which tones in with many door finishes, and is complete with a John Austin Stool of high quality. Good value.

Hohner Upright 1982

Very similar to above, but in a different finish, these were great little pianos from an established West German musical instrument company, M.Hohner, although don't be fooled by the name, these were built by Hellas in Finland to a very high specification for the price. They had three pedals (the middle one for practice) a nicely cast frame using Japanese technology and a Japanese Saito action. They sounded great for a budget piano, and this mahogany one has been tuned regularly by a good local tuner for the last few years. One owner from new. The casework is a bit faded, but it's still great value and really punches above its weight.

It is ideal for those needing a piano to go up stairs or where space is at a premium. A very popular student piano which will hold value due to constant desirability. This is in part because they fit almost anywhere. For  its size, this little piano sounds good and is fitted with a highly serviceable and reliable Schwander action. A British-made piano, this one was made in London, the name was later used by the Bentley company of Stroud for this model's final incarnation.

Rippen Cantabile contemporary upright. 1989

Glos.  Built in Holland, this Rippen is fitted with a British  high quality Langer action and three pedals, the middle being a celeste for quiet practice. Chappell "H" Compact Upright, purchased 1992

Picture_9october2011_041.jpg

This example dates from the 1990s and was purchased with the stool from Duck, Son and Pinker of Swindon. It  is in good condition both cosmetically and musically, and is finished in a mid Mahogany Satin.  The high quality John Austin box-duet stool (pictured) will be offered with the piano.

Classic "Green Frame" John Broadwood upright. Circa 1914

In unrestored condition in a rosewood cabinet, this is a beautifully proportioned classic 85-note upright piano built around the time of the First World War. The iron frame is painted green in this series of pianos, and is an attractive feature. This is the more desirable overstrung model (all were underdamper) and is virtually at concert pitch. A couple of tunings once in situ would see it comfortably there. It sounds great and represents the best era of Broadwood's construction. (As well as some lovely designs, they also made some unfortunate ones!) A word of warning! This is totally unrestored, and whilst is working well at the moment, the top three or four notes have slightly loose tuning pins, so if you intend to keep the piano for the long-term (and it is an endearing enough piano to make you want to!) you should budget for some serious restoration work in about 5-10 years.

The owner is very attached to it, and any potential purchasers may well be vetted, so a good home with someone who will love it is more important than the price paid.

Zender Coronet, 1970s Mahogany Satin

A really sweet little space-saving Zender upright in an unfaded satin mahogany finish. One owner since new and very well loved. Originally purchased from Crane's of Cardiff. Ideal for a student up to Grade 5, this is a 7-octave piano, light enough to be installed up stairs, small enough to fit under a stair-well, or just about anywhere! The piano is priced very keenly because it is fitted with a Kastner-Wehlau "Floating Cente" action. These were only fitted to Zenders for a few months, and work well, but once they begin to wear, exhibit a bit of mechanical noise. Although fairly unobtrusive in this case (only a few notes are slightly noisy) owing to unobtainable spare parts, they cannot effectively be quietened. Despite this quirk, these actions are robust and generally do not fail completely. The piano is holding concert pitch and sounds good for its diminutive size. If you are prepared to tolerate a few imperfections, this little piano is very good value.

Yamaha MX100 Silent Piano
Serial Number 540****

Based on the highly popular and sought after U1 piano, this is an original Japanese built Yamaha UK model, and not to be confused with the many imports which are flooding the market! A new Yamaha U1 Silent is now over £7,000 so this unmarked, lightly used example surely will not be on the market for long. Unlike the cheaper b-series Silent pianos, this features a useful MIDI-out port for connection to a computer or external synthesizer. This is a one-owner instrument and was originally supplied by Bristol Piano Co in 1995.
